Action against wrestlers –

Parliament of Delhi The Marg police station has named 12 people, including wrestlers, who staged a sit-in for creating ruckus and breaking barricades at Jantar Mantar. Delhi Police woman constable Priyanka has alleged that wrestler Sakshi Malik kicked her. Due to this he got injured. MLC (Medico Legal Certificate) has been made of 15 police personnel injured in the uproar. The Delhi Police said that the wrestlers would not be allowed to protest at Jantar Mantar.

The hearts of all sports lovers are saddened by the manner in which the police behaved with the women wrestlers and other male wrestlers sitting in support of their demand at Jantar Mantar on May 28. It is unfortunate that such a situation has arisen. Regarding the behavior or action taken with the international level women wrestlers and the international level male wrestlers sitting with them, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur says that till the time the wrestlers confined themselves to Jantar Mantar, no one touched them. Not even, but the police took action when the wrestlers marched towards the Parliament House with the aim of creating ruckus during the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House. No one can deny this truth.

When Dinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Sangeeta Phogat and Bajrang Punia and their supporters staged a sit-in for the first time in January, demanding action against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was the President of Wrestling Federation, the central government took it seriously. After filing a report against BJP MP Brij Bhushan, a separate inquiry committee was also formed and further action was going on that in April the wrestlers sat on a dharna again. Now their demand was that Brij Bhushan should be arrested immediately. The demand was fine, but when the wrestlers allowed political parties to use their platform against the government, on the same day their side was weakened because the parties’ aim was to weaken the image and reputation of the Modi government. The interest of the players was left behind.

International level wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, while condemning the demonstration by the wrestlers who were the vanguard of political parties and farmers’ organizations, said that the Prime Minister of the country was inaugurating the new Parliament House, it was a historic day. Yes, what the wrestlers did on the day of inauguration of the country’s biggest panchayat venue was not appropriate at all. There is a right way for everything, there is a legal process-a protocol to take legal action, in such a way we should choose a right way. Such an act should not have happened on such an auspicious occasion. The wrestlers should have followed their own path. Yogeshwar Dutt said that after this there is nothing left to appeal to the wrestlers. Staying in the middle of the legal scope, according to the legal procedure, the FIR has been registered. The government is working on the problems of the wrestlers. The law is taking its course. I believe that the one who is wrong should be punished.

It is clear from the above facts that the misbehavior or police action with the wrestlers took place only when they started doing politics regarding their demands. The Haryana Government and the Central Government have always given respect to the wrestlers and also provided all kinds of help from time to time. Forgetting the cooperation given by the government of the state and the country, when the wrestlers became pawns of the opponents of the government, only then their own position became weak. Wrestlers should now fight a legal battle instead of politicizing the issue, there is no justification for demonstrations or dharnas. Action was taken against the wrestlers only when they crossed the Lakshman Rekha. To prevent this from happening in the future, it is necessary that both the parties maintain decorum.
