San Francisco. Apple has reportedly scaled down Vision Pro mixed reality (MR) headset production plans amid manufacturing challenges in China.

Apple has asked its main Vision Pro assembler Luxshare to make fewer than 400,000 units next year, according to a report in The Financial Times, citing sources. This initial internal sales target is less than 1 million.

China-based Luxshare is said to be Apple’s main Vision Pro assembler, among many other companies. Apple or LuxShare declined to comment on the report.

Previously, Apple relied on Taiwanese suppliers such as Foxconn to help develop the first generation of new product lines.

Apple selected Chinese electronics contract manufacturer Luxshare Precision Industry Co. as the assembler for its $3,499 Vision Pro mixed reality (MR) headset, along with six other Chinese firms.

In addition to Luxshare, other suppliers are Cowell E Holdings and Shenzhen Desse Battery Technology, which provide lithium batteries and power management systems, and audio components maker Goertec, reports the South China Morning Post.

Luxshare is a major supplier of AirPods to Apple, which has also won orders for the iPhone 15.

According to a report in Taiwanese newspaper Commercial Times, Vision Pro involved 11 Taiwanese suppliers, including Largan Precision Co., Genius Electronic Optical Co., GIS-KY and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).

The Apple Vision Pro will be available early next year, starting with the US.

Vision Pro features a fully three-dimensional interface controlled by the user’s eyes, hands and voice. Featuring the world’s first spatial operating system, VisionOS, Vision Pro allows users to interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their location.

Apple Vision Pro also features eyesight, which helps users stay connected to the people around them. (IANS)
