Toronto : Canada has assured India of the safety of its diplomats over posters sharing the names of Indian officials on social media and termed “propaganda material” being circulated ahead of a pro-Khalistan rally as “unacceptable”. Canadian Foreign Minister Milani Jolly’s statement came a day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India has asked its partner countries like Canada, UK and US not to heed the ‘extremist Khalistani ideology’ as it “Not right” for their relationship. Jolly noted the country’s adherence to the Vienna Convention, stressing Canada’s commitment to the safety of diplomats. “Canada takes very seriously its obligations under the Vienna Conventions regarding the protection of diplomats,” he tweeted Tuesday. “Canada is in close contact with Indian authorities regarding some propaganda material being shared online regarding a demonstration planned for July 8,” he said. This promotional material is unacceptable.

‘Don’t pay attention to Khalistanis’

The Foreign Minister said, ‘We have urged our allies countries like Canada, Britain, America, Australia, where Khalistani activities have taken place, not to pay attention to Khalistanis, because their (Khalistanis’) extremist, extremist thinking is neither ours nor ours. It is neither good for them nor for our relations with them (those countries). “We will take up the issue of the poster with the government there (Canadian),” he said. I believe that by now this (taking up the issue with the Canadian government) would have already been done.
