The import of products under HSN code 8741 was banned by the Government of India. It mainly includes laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs and ultra-small computers. It was announced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). According to a report, Dell, Lenovo and other laptop companies have submitted applications to participate in India’s $2 billion incentive program. Under this program production has to be increased in India.

Let us tell you that in the beginning of August, the government had said that India would need a license while importing laptops, tablets and personal computers. This step was taken to increase production in India. Now this is also happening. Companies that have shown interest in manufacturing in India include Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Dell Technologies, Asus, Acer and Lenovo.

According to Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the PLI initiative for IT hardware could bring in a huge amount of investment which would be around Rs 24.3 billion.
