After being invited to bat first, England could only score 282 runs for 9 wickets due to losing wickets at regular intervals. From his side, experienced batsman Joe Root made the maximum contribution of 77 runs. New Zealand’s makeshift spinner Glenn Phillips took two wickets for 17 runs in three overs. Mitchell Santner took two wickets for 37 runs and Matt Henry took three wickets for 48 runs in 10 overs.

Conway scored 10 runs by hitting two fours in the first over of Chris Woakes but Sam Curran got Will Young (00) caught behind the wicket on the first ball of the next over. After this the England bowlers kept yearning to get wickets. Ravindra proved the decision of sending him to the top order correct. As soon as he came to the crease, he adopted aggressive tactics and along with Conway led the team to victory.

It did not take much time for him to get the second wicket. Santner put an end to Bairstow’s aggression by getting him caught by Darrell Mitchell on the boundary line.
