Female engineer files suit against Elon Musk’s SpaceX, know the whole matter

san francisco (Uttam Hindu News): SpaceX engineer Ashley Folz has filed a lawsuit against the aerospace company run by Elon Musk, accusing it of pay discrimination. There are allegations that female and minority employees are being paid less than male and white employees.

Folz says in her proposed class-action lawsuit that she was hired as a base-level engineer at a salary of $92,000, although men with similar or less experience were offered up to $115,000. Ashley was hired as a propulsion engineer at SpaceX in September 2022.

The lawsuit argued that Musk and company executives had no valid justification for their discriminatory pay. Folz described herself as one of SpaceX’s few female engineers. She became aware of the pay gap when California’s Pay Transparency Act went into effect.

Folz accused SpaceX of violating California labor law, and asked the court to award him and any other affected employees civil penalties and monetary damages. SpaceX has not yet commented on the lawsuit.

This is not the first time the Musk-run aerospace company has been accused of discriminatory hiring and promotion practices. In August this year, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) sued SpaceX for discriminating against refugees in recruitment.
