Google’s dominance as a search engine increased due to its use of unfair tactics: Nadella – Dainik Savera Times

Washington: Microsoft Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella said that Google’s dominance as a search engine has increased due to its use of unfair tactics. He said that it was because of such strategy that his company’s rival program ‘BIG’ failed. ‘BIG’ also worked as a search engine. Nadella testified in Washington DC court during the hearing in a case filed against Google’s parent company Alphabet. This case has been filed by the government against the company.

The Justice Ministry alleges that Google has abused its ubiquitous search engine dominance to stifle competition and innovation at the expense of consumers. Microsoft also faced similar allegations in the late 1990s. Nadella said Google’s dominance was due to agreements that made it the ‘default browser’ on smartphones and computers.

He, however, rejected the fact that artificial intelligence or more specialized search engines like Amazon or social media websites have changed the market in which Microsoft competes with Google. Nadella said that basically users do not have much choice over the default web browser on mobile phones and computers. “We are one of the options, but we are not the default,” he said. Nadella, in response to a question, denied that Big’s adoption of artificial intelligence had dramatically changed its market share.
