Harmanpreet lauds young bowlers for guiding India to victory over Bangladesh in 1st T20


MirpurIndia skipper Harmanpreet Kaur lauded her bowlers, especially the young ones, for guiding her team to a seven-wicket win over hosts Bangladesh in the series-opener T20I at the Shere Bangla National Stadium here on Sunday. Brilliant effort bowling the length and restricting Bangladesh to a modest 114/5 in 20 overs. In reply, skipper Harmanpreet scored an unbeaten 54 off 35 balls, while Smriti Mandhana scored 38 off 34 balls to post a winning start in the series at 118/3 in 16.2 overs.

Harmanpreet, who was adjudged player of the match, said that budding youngsters Minnu Mani and Bareddy Anusha responded well to the challenge. “It was a great effort,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after the match. The bowlers, especially the young girls, bowled really well. I wanted to see how they would bowl in the first six overs, I think they both understood the conditions very early. Apart from him, Deepti (Sharma) also bowled well. They have an experienced bowler and they showed it today.

When asked about the efforts of veteran batsman Smriti Mandhana, Harman said that she always gives her 100 per cent. Harmanpreet said, ‘She is always ready to give her 100% for the team and she did that today as well. When you have batters like Smriti and Shafali (Verma), you don’t have to worry too much. We wanted to finish four-five overs earlier and I am really happy that we were able to do that.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma said it was good to start the series on a winning note.Obviously, it feels good that we started on a positive note, Deepti said in the post-match press conference. We did well as a team and we will try to continue like this in the remaining matches as well. Asked whether it was an easy win after bowling out Bangladesh for 114, Deepti said, Can’t say it was easy as the wicket was a bit slow. We played according to the conditions and our batting unit covered it well.
