In the cycle of settling abroad!

The latest data from the US Customs and Border Protection (UCBP) department has revealed that the number of Indians caught crossing the US border illegally has increased five times compared to previous years. According to the data, 19,883 Indians were caught in 2019-20. 30,662 Indians were arrested in 2020-21 while the number was 63,927 in 2021-22. Of the 96,917 Indians arrested from October 2022 to September this year, 30,010 were caught at the Canadian border and 41,770 at the forward border with Mexico. 84,000 Indian adults came to the US illegally in fiscal year 2023. 730 minors are also included among those arrested.

The fiscal year of the US government runs from October 1 to September 30. Meanwhile, Senator James Lankford said in the Senate that these people board flights from countries like France about four times to reach Mexico and then board a bus to reach the border with the help of gangs. After this, they reach the border and enter America by jumping over wires and walls. Most of the people have only one excuse that they are facing threat to their life and property in India, due to which they do not want to return to their country.

The main reason behind settling abroad is economic security. Most of the people from India are from Punjab, Haryana, Kerala and Gujarat and are settling abroad. There is no harm in going abroad to live and work legally, but when the ghost of only earning money and realizing the dream of getting rich quickly is in the mind of a person, then he tries to go abroad by adopting every legitimate or illegitimate means. Gets ready to settle in. Taking advantage of this human shortage, a section of travel agents are active in sending Indians out illegally. This class not only does illegal work but also forces an ordinary person to follow the illegal path.

If you look further into the issue of illegal entry into America, you will find Indians settled illegally in many countries including Canada, England, Australia and France. Indians living abroad illegally live a life of prisoners; they are at the mercy of the people where they live or work. Illegally settled Indians also have to work more hours than others and get less money. Those who are caught are forced to live a hellish life in jail for years.

The Government of India and the State Governments need to run a campaign to sensitize those wishing to settle abroad about the difficulties faced by them in the matter of going and settling there illegally. Secondly, those travel agents who, taking illegitimate advantage of the plight of a common man, send them to settle abroad illegally, should be given strict punishment and their property should also be confiscated. Without taking strict action against illegal travel agents, it will be difficult to curb this illegal business.
