India, US discuss ways to boost trade, investment


New Delhi : Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Catherine Tai discussed ways to promote trade and investment between the two countries. Goyal said on social media network X that he had a bilateral meeting with his American counterpart Tai.

They discussed key bilateral issues of mutual interest and ways to further accelerate the growing India-US partnership through increased trade and investment, they said. An official recently said that the two countries are looking to settle their last trade dispute over poultry at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Apart from this, the two countries are also considering expanding the partnership by allowing each other’s companies to participate in government procurement. In July, India and the US mutually resolved six trade disputes pending at the WTO, in line with a commitment made by both countries during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US in June.

In this regard, both sides welcomed the initiation of discussions at the official level on issues related to government procurement. America is India’s largest trade partner. Bilateral goods trade to increase to $128.8 billion in FY 2022-23, as against $119.5 billion in 2021-22.
