Jaishankar is also likely to hold meetings with senior officials of the Biden administration. He will review the progress made between the two countries following the historic state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June and talk about other regional and global issues. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and discussed the progress in bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to take it forward. Jaishankar, who arrived here from New York on Wednesday after addressing the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, will later meet US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Jaishankar wrote on ‘X’, “Began my trip to Washington DC with a meeting with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. “Underlined the tremendous progress made in our bilateral relations this year and discussed how to build on it.”

Jaishankar will meet Blinken at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department. He may also meet US Trade Representative Catherine Tye. The high-level meeting between the two countries took place after the recently concluded G-20 summit in New Delhi and amid the India-Canada diplomatic dispute. The meeting between the two top diplomats was scheduled well before the Canadian crisis began. On the other hand, the US is urging India to cooperate in the Canadian investigation into the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has alleged involvement of Indian government agents in Nijjar’s murder. India had declared Nijjar a terrorist in 2020. India has rejected Canada’s allegations as absurd.

Jaishankar is also likely to hold meetings with senior officials of the Biden administration. He will review the progress made between the two countries following the historic state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June and talk about other regional and global issues. The Foreign Minister can also meet people of Indian origin community and corporate world.
