New Delhi . India’s brilliant start in the World Cup has made the opposing teams sweat. Virat Kohli has been the best player on the field in the tournament so far.

According to the ICC report, Kohli has taken a total of three catches in three matches for India. Two fewer than non-wicketkeepers New Zealand’s Matt Henry and Australia’s experienced David Warner, but their impact on the field is much greater.

India’s batting star tops the list of runs saved and pressure ratings across the three matches for all teams at the event and his total of 22.30 puts him at the top for fielding impact at the World Cup.

Kohli’s nearest challengers are a pair of fellow legends, with former England captain Joe Root (four catches) and Warner (five catches) being his nearest rivals.

Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia and India each have two players in the star-studded top 10, while the tournament hosts have one more player, placed 11th.

This means that India is better in terms of team rating, having taken 14 catches so far in the tournament. That included a total of 10 runs saved, 16 pressure situations and a quartet of good throws.

India have dropped only two catches in the opening three matches, while defending champions England (one) are the only team to have dropped fewer catches.

The tournament hosts have been awarding ‘gold medals’ to their best fielder in each match so far, with Kohli winning the gold during India’s impressive win over five-time World Cup champions Australia at the start of the event.

All-rounder Shardul Thakur received the award for his brilliant catch on the boundary during India’s match against Afghanistan that helped dismiss Rahmanullah Gurbaz while veteran batsman KL Rahul won the award after the clash with arch-rivals Pakistan.
