Mahindra Thar will be equipped with 5-door infotainment unit, know its specialty


New Delhi : Spy shots of the Thar 5-door model of Mahindra & Mahindra, a car maker in India, are becoming increasingly viral on social media. It is being speculated from the viral shots that the Mahindra Thar 5-door will be equipped with an infotainment unit, which is slightly bigger than the Thar 3-door. According to media reports, although the Mahindra Thar 5-door was to be launched on the occasion of August 15, at present the automaker wants to make some necessary changes to the model before starting its production.

The new spy shots reveal that it could also get minor styling tweaks and feature additions, which is also expected to get a bigger touchscreen display. With the Thar 5-door, Mahindra will target SUV buyers who want a vehicle that can be used for daily tasks as well as off-road and outdoors. So its 5-door model is expected to get more comfort along with more features. Spy shots reveal that some of its variants will get to see some other features including a sunroof, front and rear center armrest and a new infotainment screen. The 3-door model currently gets a 7-inch touchscreen while the new testing mule is seen sporting a screen of around 10-inch or more, which gets a floating look.

Mahindra currently offers touchscreens of various sizes in its SUV line-up. In which 7-inch in Thar 3-door, up to 8-inch in Scorpio N, 9-inch units in XUV300 and XUV400 and a bigger 10.25-inch screen on XUV700. The Thar 3-Door gets a lot of criticism for its average interface and display with a 7-inch screen. The big screen in the Thar 5-door will be a big step forward for the company.

The Thar 5-door is expected to get heavily athletic front seats and a large center armrest. The second row seats can also get adjustable headrests. The SUV is also likely to be offered with a single-sheet sunroof.


The Thar 5-door will be offered with the same engine options as the 3-door model. These include a 2.2-litre diesel producing 130 Bhp-300 Nm and a 2.0-litre petrol producing 150 Bhp-300-320 Nm. Both the engines are likely to be offered with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Over 68,000 Bookings

The production-spec Thar 5-door with petrol and diesel engines could be launched early next year. Currently, the company has pending orders for delivery of more than 2.8 lakh vehicles. Till August 2023, more than 68,000 bookings have been done for Thar. Every month 10,000 new orders are received for this SUV. Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar 2WD is in high demand and currently the waiting period is around 15 months. While the 4WD has a waiting period of around five months.
