Make In India: India will compete with China on another front, will start exporting renewable energy equipment

Make in India: India is preparing on every front to give a big competition to China in the global market. India will also soon strengthen its hold in the export of renewable energy equipment which is dominated by China. New and Renewable Energy Secretary Bhupendra Singh Bhalla said on Thursday that India will emerge as a major country in the global renewable energy equipment supply system and will become an exporter. He said that solar manufacturing capacity in the country will reach one lakh MW by 2026. The government has implemented the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme with an outlay of Rs 24,000 crore. This is expected to help in setting up solar equipment manufacturing capacity of 48,000 MW by 2026. He joined the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).cii) said in a program that our aim is to make the country an important global supplier of renewable energy equipment. The Rs 24,000 crore solar PLI scheme will create 48,000 MW of new renewable energy generation in the next three years. He said that currently the country has 28,000 MW solar module manufacturing capacity and 6,000 MW solar cell manufacturing capacity.

India ranks fourth in terms of renewable energy capacity

Bhupendra Singh Bhalla said that after the implementation of PLI scheme for solar energy, the country is expected to have one lakh MW solar module manufacturing capacity. He said that we need to add 30,000 MW to 40,000 MW solar power manufacturing capacity every year. We still have enough capacity for export. This is why India will become a major country in the global supply system in terms of solar equipment. India has an ambitious target of achieving five lakh MW renewable energy capacity by 2030. Also, the target is to achieve 50 percent of the total power generation capacity from green energy sources. He said that our aim is to make the country an important manufacturer of solar modules. India is set to become a global hub for manufacturing of renewable energy equipment. Bhalla said that the manufacturing capacity in the case of wind energy equipment (turbines) in the country is 15,000 MW. India ranks fourth in the world in terms of renewable energy capacity.

Adani’s wind mill generator gets international certification

Adani Enterprises Ltd on Wednesday said its subsidiary Adani New Industries Ltd has received key international certification and will now be able to start production of 5.2 MW series wind farm generators for global supply. Adani New Industries was till now producing and supplying 5.2 MW wind mill generators to domestic wind energy companies. Adani Enterprises said in the information given to the stock markets that the country’s largest wind mill generators manufactured by Adani Wind have received the certificate from WindGuard GmbH. With the receipt of this certificate, Adani Wind will be able to start production of this series of generators for global markets. Adani Wind is the wind energy solutions arm of Adani New Industries Limited. Vineet Jain, Director, Adani New Industries said that this certification establishes the quality and strength of the company’s 5.2 MW series wind mill generators.

India reduced import of solar modules from China by 76%

According to a report, there has been a huge decline of 76 percent in India’s imports of solar modules from China in the first half of 2023. This came to light in a report on Thursday. This shows India’s commitment towards self-reliance in solar manufacturing. According to the report of global energy research institute Amber, on an annual basis, India’s solar module imports from China declined from 9.8 GW in the first half of 2022 to only 2.3 GW in the same period in 2023. Nashwin Rodrigues, India power policy analyst at Amber, said India’s dependence on China for solar module imports is actually reducing after 2022. Domestic manufacturing is gaining momentum due to recent policy interventions. As India moves closer to self-sufficiency in solar manufacturing, dependence on Chinese modules and cells is no longer an obstacle.
