Owner of PSL franchise Multan Sultans commits suicide, dead body found in house, team became champion in 2021


Lahore: Alamgir Tareen, the owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, was found dead at his home in Gulberg area of ​​Lahore. Alamgir Tareen, 63, committed suicide. Alamgir, an alumnus of the prestigious Yale University, is counted among the big businessmen of South Punjab (Pakistan). He used to operate the largest water purification plant in the country. According to local media reports, the reason behind his suicide is yet to be ascertained. Alamgir along with his nephew Ali Khan Tareen had bought the Multan Sultans franchise in 2018. In the year 2021, he took full ownership of the team by buying his nephew’s shares. Haider Azhar, CEO of Multan Sultans himself confirmed the news and expressed deep sorrow and condolences to Tareen’s family. CEO Azhar said, “Alamgir Tareen was an important and respected person on our team. We are deeply saddened by his sudden and untimely demise. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.

PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars also expressed grief over the shocking news and said that they are shocked to hear of Tareen’s demise. “We stand by Alamgir Tareen’s family and Multan Sultans in this difficult time,” the franchise said in a statement.

According to the official website of Multan Sultans, Alamgir was a sports lover who wanted to work in every direction to establish a solid platform for aspiring sportsmen and women and help them further develop their skills. In 2021, Multan Sultan won the PSL title for the first time by defeating Peshawar Zalmi in the final. Big names like Mohammad Rizwan, Kieron Pollard, Tim David and Rilee Russo play in the team.
