Pak will work with Iran on border issues: General Asim Munir


Karachi (Hindu News): Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir met Iran’s top military leaders to discuss bilateral matters related to defense and security cooperation and stressed that his country was committed to strengthening ties and maintaining security. Ready to adopt appropriate solutions to deal with the challenges and presence and activities of terrorist elements along the border.

Gen Munir, who arrived in Iran on Saturday on a two-day visit with a military delegation, met Iran’s top general Mohammad Hossein Bagheri in Tehran, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency. During this, ways to improve bilateral interaction were discussed to develop cooperation in various fields including defence, security, military and training.

On his arrival in Tehran, Meher said, General Munir was received by Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.

In the meeting, both sides discussed and examined ways to enhance bilateral interaction, strengthen security along shared borders and enhance academic interaction and defense and security ties at the regional level.

General Munir also met Major General Hossein Salami, chief commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), who said Iran attaches the highest importance to Pakistan’s security, Dawn reported.

“We consider Pakistan’s security as our own and by expanding dialogue, cooperation and joint actions, we will eliminate the existence of terrorist groups and establish stable security in the shared border areas,” General Salami was quoted as saying by Mehr news agency. “

The commander-in-chief of the IRGC said that his forces were ready to turn the borders of the two countries into economic boundaries for economic and trade activities.
