Six killed in China kindergarten stabbing; Area sealed – accused arrested


Beijing Three children, two parents and a teacher were killed in a knife attack at a kindergarten school in China’s Guangdong province on Monday. Police said that the accused person has been arrested. Police told the BBC the incident happened at around 7.40am and a 25-year-old man was arrested in Lianjiang city. However, the police have not yet identified the victims. He described the incident as a case of “deliberate attack”.

A store owner who works near the kindergarten told the BBC that the surrounding area had been sealed off. Even before Monday’s incident, knife attacks have been on the rise in the country, including many in schools, the BBC reported. In August 2022, a knife-wielding attacker attacked a kindergarten in Jiangxi province, killing three people and injuring six others.

In April 2021, two children were killed and 16 others were injured during a mass stabbing in Beiliu City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In October 2018, 14 children were injured in a knife attack at a kindergarten in Chongqing.
