sunil gavaskar rohit sharma rahul dravid India west indies series

New Delhi: When Rohit Sharma took over the Test leadership following the end of Virat Kohli’s captaincy, he received support from several former captains. The great Sunil Gavaskar was among those who had high hopes from him. Especially regarding the T20 World Cup, because the track record of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was tremendous and it was believed that he would do wonders like Dhoni. However, this did not happen. Team India lost badly in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup played in Australia. Then what happened in the WTC final is not hidden from anyone.Captain, coach and staff lashed out at everyone
Now birthday boy Sunil Gavaskar has ripped apart Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid while talking about overall captaincy and coaching. India failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup final in Australia, lost the World Test Championship final and performed poorly in the Test series in South Africa. Gavaskar has been disappointed with Rohit’s captaincy. He has lashed out at the coaching staff of Rahul Dravid, Vikram Rathod and Paras Mhambrey.

Talking to The Indian Express, Gavaskar said – I expected more from him (Rohit). It is different in India, but that is really the test when you do well overseas. This is where his performance has been a bit disappointing. Even in the T20 format, not reaching the final despite all the IPL experience, with the best IPL players and hundreds of matches as captain has been disappointing.

Has the performance been reviewed?
The former Indian skipper also wanted to know whether there was a proper review of India’s defeat by the selectors and the BCCI. Talking about India’s World Test Championship defeat to Australia last month, he said that coach Dravid and captain Rohit should have been asked to explain the decisions taken by their side.

BCCI and selectors should have asked these questions
He said- the question should be asked to him, ‘Why did you field first?’ Well, at the time of the toss it was told that it was cloudy. The question then should be- you didn’t know about Travis Head’s weakness against the short ball? Why was the bouncer only when he had scored 80? You know, Ricky Ponting was saying in the commentary box as soon as Head came to bat – hit him with a bouncer…. Everyone knew about it but we did not try.

Lack of practice in England so which match are you playing in Windies?
Rohit Sharma talks about lack of preparation after WTC defeat. Gavaskar did not accept that argument. Giving a befitting reply to Rohit, he said – what kind of preparation are we talking about? Now he has gone to West Indies. You have the example of the World Test Championship in front of you. Are you playing any match? So what is this talk of 20-25 days? Be truthful when you talk about preparation. Go and play two warm-up matches 15 days in advance. Key players can be rested, but youngsters can be given a chance.
