Buenos Aires. Lionel Messi will travel with the Argentina squad for their World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in La Paz, Albiceleste manager Lionel Scaloni said.

Messi trained separately from his teammates late on Sunday after Argentina’s 1-0 home win over Ecuador in the opening South American zone qualifier on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to media reports, Messi has been cleared of any injury but Scaloni is worried about his workload. Messi has played 12 matches in the last 48 days, the most consecutive matches since joining Inter Miami on a free transfer in mid-July.

Scoloni said, “He is going to visit. Today he [मुख्य टीम से] Separate training. There are still two days left in the game. We will take a decision tomorrow or Tuesday.”

Tuesday’s match against Bolivia will be particularly tense given the rarefied air at La Paz’s Hernando Siles Stadium, located more than 3,600 meters above sea level.

In addition to the possible exclusion of Messi and defender Cristian Romero, Scoloni said he would make some changes to Argentina’s starting lineup.

“We all know how difficult it is to play at that height, but the team will be basically the same as it was against Ecuador,” he added.(IANS)
