Stockholm: Protests have been taking place all over the world since the incident of burning of the Holy Quran on the occasion of Eid ul Azha in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The Holy Quran was burnt outside a mosque in the capital. Since then many Muslim countries of the world have openly criticized Sweden. Protests took place in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. At the same time, Iran also postponed the appointment of its ambassador. OIC has also expressed concern over this incident.

Sweden has condemned the incident after massive protests. Sweden has described the incident as Islamophobic. Sweden’s foreign ministry has said that the incident should not be linked to the Swedish government. The statement from Sweden came after the OIC called for action to prevent such incidents in the future. Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old refugee born in Iraq, burnt this holy book. A case has been registered against him for burning the Quran.

Sweden protested

Following the Stockholm incident, thousands of protesters demonstrated outside the Swedish embassy at the call of an Iraqi cleric. After tightening the security of the embassy, ​​he left within 15 minutes. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdullahian directly blamed the Swedish government for the incident. Along with this, Iran has said that it is not sending its new ambassador to Sweden in protest against this incident.

These countries also protested

America termed Momika’s act as reprehensible. On the other hand, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia said that this heinous act is being done again and again, which cannot be accepted. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Sweden, saying his country would never bow down to threats or provocations. “We will teach arrogant Westerners that insulting the holy book of Muslims is not freedom of speech,” he said.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Morocco recalled its ambassador from Sweden for an indefinite period. Egypt has termed this incident as condemnable and expressed concern over such incidents happening continuously. Jordan expressed his displeasure by summoning the ambassador of Sweden. Apart from these, Kuwait, Yemen, Syria, UAE and Qatar also protested.
