Hangzhou: Rituraj Gaikwad, India’s captain for the men’s T20 competition at the Asian Games, said meeting athletes from other sports at the Asian Games made him realize what it means to represent the country.

Gaikwad will captain the Indian team in the Asian Games when they take on Nepal in the quarter-final clash on Tuesday.

“In cricket, we have the World Cup, IPL and domestic tournaments,” Gaikwad said in a video posted on BCCI.TV. We are used to that kind of environment and conditions but coming here we really got to know the athletes.

‘Hardly in two or four years they get a chance to play and represent the country. We are happy with this trip and we discovered how special it is. It represents something very special about the country. In the Asian Games, everyone is eager to win gold for the country and stand on the podium.

Talking about the lessons he learned during the tenure of Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, Gaikwad revealed, ‘I got to learn a lot of things from him (Dhoni), but every person’s style is different. His style is different. The personality is different and my personality is a little different. I will try to be like that.
