Dubai . Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has suggested that Virat Kohli could be the answer to India’s number 4 puzzle in the World Cup.

Speaking on his YouTube channel ‘AB de Villiers 360’, Kohli’s former IPL teammate said, “We are still talking about who will be the number 4 batsman for India. Heard some rumors about him becoming the No.4 batsman. I will be a huge supporter of him.”

“I think Virat is perfect for No.4. He can anchor the innings, play any role in the middle order. I don’t know whether he would want to do that. We know he likes his No. 3 spot; He has scored all his runs there, but at the end of the day, if the team needs you to do something, play a certain role, you have to put your hand up and go for it.”

With Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul recently back in the squad after long injuries, India’s middle order has been the talk of the town ahead of the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

When India announced the Asia Cup squad, skipper Rohit Sharma stressed the importance of flexibility in the batting order and told that players should be ready to bat at any position.

Iyer, who is back from his back surgery, is currently most likely to fill the No.4 slot, but Kohli has found great success in the role in the past.

Batting at No.4, Kohli has managed to score seven centuries and averages 55.21 and has a strike rate of 90.66. Although on the other hand, he has not batted in that position since January 2020 when he played against Australia in Mumbai.

Although Iyer’s good form at India’s Asia Cup training camp in Alur could keep the middle-order stable, KL Rahul’s fitness remains a concern and he will miss at least two matches in the Asia Cup, starting August 30. Can miss.(IANS)
