How grand is BAPS Hindu Mandir in UAE

As far as the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi is concerned, let us tell you that during the last three years, more than 2,000 artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat have carved 402 pillars of white marble for the temple. The temple will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on 14 February. Set on a hilltop on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, this temple is sure to be an attractive spiritual destination. Let us tell you that before the inauguration of the temple, a preview program was organized for the ambassadors of 42 countries to get a glimpse of its architecture. During this, all the ambassadors were surprised to see the temple and kept praising the Sanatan culture to their heart’s content.

As far as the grandeur of the temple is concerned, let us tell you that it is one of the most divine and grandest temples in the world. You will be awestruck when you see the hand-carved statues in Abu Dhabi’s first traditional Hindu temple. This temple has a wealth of excellent architecture. This grand temple, built on 27 acres of land donated by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also reflects the mutual harmony there. It is being told that this place of worship will be open to the public from February 18. The specialty of this temple is that not only Hinduism but also different religions and civilizations are represented here.

Built by skilled artisans from India, the pink sandstone structures are a sight to behold. From whichever corner you look at this historical temple, its grandeur will be visible. The first thing that is noticeable after entering the temple complex is the impressive mound structure created from the sand of all seven emirates. It has been established as a tribute to Swami Maharaj, the late spiritual head of the BAPS institution, who wished to build a temple in Abu Dhabi in 1997 while living in the middle of the desert of Sharjah. Today, that dream has become a reality due to the combined efforts of the UAE, Modi government and BAPS organization.

A striking waterfall welcomes visitors before entering the main temple, which represents the source of the sacred Indian rivers Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati. To keep the temperature cool, the floor has been constructed with advanced technology so that devotees will be able to easily roam barefoot in the temple premises. Apart from this there are eco-friendly shoe houses. Also, there are 96 bells on the exterior of the temple which symbolizes remembering the life of late Swami Maharaj. Apart from this, benches, tables and chairs in the food court have also been made very comfortable.

This temple reflects the Arabic symbols as well as the rich culture and history of India. The stone carvings depict important events from various Hindu scriptures and mythologies, including the Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. The temple is built according to the ancient Hindu ‘Shilpa Shastra’ (Sanskrit text of architecture), which also depicts some important stories from Arabian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Aztec and Indian civilization. The artefacts inside the temple are also worth seeing. Two magnificent carvings – ‘Dome of Harmony’ and ‘Dome of Peace’ attract everyone’s attention. Furthermore, the ‘Dome of Harmony’ is a picturesque symbol of the five layers encompassing the essence of earth, water, fire, air and space. A notable work here is the ‘Pillar of Pillars’, which is decorated with thousands of small pillars.

However, there is no doubt that the construction of a Hindu temple in a Muslim country is sure to have a global impact. This temple will not only be a gift for the coming generations but will also become a medium to understand and get attracted towards Sanatan.
