What does chandrayaan-3 success mean to today’s space science: Senior space scientist K. Kasturirangan has said that the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission has raised the possibility of using the Moon as a base point for future planetary missions. He said that this success has strengthened India’s credentials to participate in such future explorations.

Kasturirangan said that successfully landing Chandrayaan-3 on the moon, exploration capability, understanding of the entire process and everything related to it has given ISRO complete capability. He said that future planetary explorations are going to dominate the activities of mankind in the 21st century.

Kasturirangan, former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), said the latest lunar mission is an important milestone in ISRO’s journey in the last 50 years as for the first time you have attempted to land an object outside Earth on any other body in the solar system. ISRO’s space program has comprehensively demonstrated its potential.

Kasturirangan said, I think it is a very unique ability. “Exploring the South Pole is very important because of the fact that it doesn’t get much sunlight, and since the Moon stopped evolving after two billion years, the South Pole is an ancient region,” he said.

He said, there is a great possibility that if water is available there in large quantities, then the Moon can become a very important platform for use in future missions. He said that India is now a member of the Artemis agreement and we will use this opportunity to become a member of a club that will try to use the Moon as a base point for exploration of other objects in the solar system.

He said- So, this is also very important, because we have reached the place where there is a lot of possibility of having hydrological and chemical, physical and environmental properties. These properties need to be understood much better than today.
