New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp has started testing a version of its iOS app that is also compatible with the Apple iPad. WhatsApp for iPad is currently under testing, which all beta testers can now install through the TestFlight app, WABetaInfo reports. Version 126.96.36.199 of WhatsApp’s TestFlight app includes the new iPad. To set up WhatsApp on your iPad, you’ll need to install the beta iOS version of the app on your iPhone and iPad.
After linking your iPad to your iPhone you will be able to use WhatsApp independently on your iPad without having to connect your phone to the internet, ‘which is an important feature for those who work on their tablets’. Additionally, the report mentions that your messages and calls will still be secure with end-to-end encryption when using Companion Mode.
Since Companion Mode is still in beta, some features may still not work properly such as the ability to view and post status updates and some functionality regarding live location. WhatsApp plans to address these issues by introducing bug fixes and several improvements in future updates of the app. At the moment, there is no release date for the availability of the WhatsApp for iPad app on the App Store.
